PREGNANCY WEEK BY WEEK

We get pregnant and we suddenly start measuring time week by week. How weird can that be for those around us?

This new way of going through time is likely to develop from our first visit to the midwife or obstetrician, when they’ll calculate how far ahead we are, based on our Last Menstrual Period (LMP). They’ll consider the first day of our LMP to be day 1 of pregnancy, at “week 0”.

Soon, we’ll be confirming our due date by doing an ultrasound (roughly at 10-14 weeks of pregnancy) and so the countdown begins…

A full-term pregnancy is normally considered to be a total of 40 weeks, which equals 9 months (of 30 days each), divided into 3 trimesters. Most women will feel considerably different during these 3 stages of pregnancy.

Babies, go through astonishing transformations which are noticeable on a weekly basis. Initially, we call them embryo, then fetus (from around 10 weeks of pregnancy) and finally a much expected “baby”!

Today I’ve decided to list the different stages of our baby’s development so that even our non-pregnant friends can understand when, besides living on a week-by-week basis, we compare our baby to fruit or veggies.
