How to Write the Perfect, KICKASS ABOUT ME PAGE

Today I want to discuss the importance of a kickass About Me page on any website or blog. Let’s make it stand out and look perfect, shall we?

Often, your about page will be the one getting the highest traffic, and the first step for readers to learn about you and your blog. It will be a representation of your brand and you want it to be engaging, easy to read, and memorable.

Firstly, I invite you to think about the following:

Key About Me page inclusions

  • What?

What do you write about on your blog? And what is in it for the reader?

Most importantly, what topics can visitors expect to find on your blog?

You can also include some ideas on what makes you/your brand unique and why they should choose to read your website rather than any other.

  • Who?

Who is your ideal audience or client?

As discussed in Starting a Blog – The Pre-Work Secrets post, knowing exactly who you’re targeting will help you set the tone for your entire blogging journey.

And who are you? Depending on your niche, this could be concise and straight to the point, or a bit more detailed if you do speak about yourself and your own experiences.

  • When?

When did you think about starting this business or hobby?

  • Why?

Why are you here and why are you qualified to write about these topics?

  • Where?

Although this is not a mandatory part of the text, if you’d like to get personal and let your readers know you a bit better, it would be great to include some information on where you live and/or where you’re from.

If you are a company and sell products to your local audience, then you must include this information. Let’s imagine that you are in the US, have readers from Australia, but aren’t able to deliver your products there. In that case, your Australian audience needs to know that although they are welcome to continue reading your blog daily, it might not be a place for them to shop.

You should also include some pictures and, to make it even more exclusive, adding one or a few pictures of yourself is a great way to make your readers feel connected and stick around.

The importance of a good heading:

You will want your readers to be engaged from the very start and actually read through every single word you have next. To capture their attention, you got about 2 seconds!

And to secure those first 2 seconds, I’d recommend adding a heading. This should be the first thing your audience sees when they click on your About Me page. And it should include you (brand), them (your target audience), and the offer (what they get from your blog).

Call to action:

Having a call to action opportunity is extremely important! You want your readers to return and your page to keep showing up for them.

You want to have their email addresses so that you can keep in touch and remind them of your site. Nothing wrong with that!

Today, most bloggers and companies include call-to-actions all over: website pages, blog posts, social media content… Digital newsletters are immensely powerful tools to connect with readers and convert them into active followers.

If you have an incentive to offer, then that would be great to include here! Of course, you risk that some of the site’s visitors are only looking to receive whatever you are offering and will unsubscribe right away. Just put all your focus on those who stay!

Great examples of subscriber magnets are:

  • E-books
  • Access to video content
  • Exclusive posts not published to the general audience
  • Short free course/workshop
  • Exclusive guide/How-to-something
  • Printables

Of course, you could also keep it simple and only include your newsletter subscription box. It is completely up to you! And, to be fair, an audience who subscribes without any incentive is a truly engaged one, and will be more likely to return.

Other About Me page rules you must consider:

  • Remember it is not really about you, it is about them (your readers)
  • Be impactful and rememberable
  • Be concise and straight to the point (or they won’t read it…)
  • Make it visually appealing
  • Be confident and convincing

Now, go ahead, don’t be afraid to take a look at other people’s blogs and find some more inspiration with them.

And do share with me your new about page, on the comments below, so that myself and others can also feel inspired by you and get to know your blog!!
